Frequently Asked Questions

What is Express entry?

Express Entry is an immigration system for skilled individuals to immigrate to Canada. It is best suited for those who want to permanently settle in Canada. The application process can be entirely online and can be completed from anywhere in the world, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria. There are 3 major immigration programs offered through Express Entry:

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) and,
  • Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

How can I qualify for Express Entry?

The qualification for one or more of the Express Entry programs depends on a variety of factors including age, education, work experience, history of residence, professional skills category and more. We recommend that you start by filling out an Express Entry profile to correctly evaluate your chances of obtaining a PR. To get started, enroll in the Global Settlers Mentorship Program (GSMP) now.

What are PNP programs?

The term PNP stands for Provincial Nominee Program. PNP refers to immigration programs offered by the individual provinces in Canada. These provinces have a separate criteria from the federal programs within the express entry system. These criteria are set by the respective provincial governments based on the socio-economic goals they have set out to achieve through immigration.

Remember, if you don’t qualify for any of the federal programs in the Express Entry System, researching PNPs for various provinces is a great way to increase your chances of obtaining a PR. Ask your mentor about what program you may qualify for.

What PNP programs can I qualify for as an engineer?

The requirements of PNP programs are dynamic and keep changing. As of the writing of this FAQ, many provinces including Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Saskatchewan have categorized software engineers (NOC 2173) as high-in-demand. This means that software engineers have a higher chance of getting nominated from these provinces even if they don’t qualify for any of the federal programs.

Do I need a job offer before applying for Express Entry?

No, you don’t need a job offer to be eligible to apply to the Express Entry program, however, a job offer will add to your CRS score, thus improving your chances of getting an Invitation to apply (ITA).

How can I improve my CRS score?

There are various ways you can improve your CRS score. Improving your language test scores, adding/removing your spouse/partner, choosing a different principal applicant are just a few. If you would like to evaluate your profile and learn about your chances, contact us here.
